Manage all farm operations, including the milking and feed management of 570 peak cows, and ensuring targets of 485 KG / MS per cow are achieved within set budgets. Liaising closely with farm owner and advisor, oversee the running, maintenance and upkeep of a 50 bale, fully automatic dairy shed. Ensure equipment is kept up to date.  Utilise skills and experience with most irrigation equipment and fertilisation to effectively oversee pasture management and thereby ensure optimal soil fertility.  Supervise two full time workers as well as recruit and (where necessary) train a number of seasonal contract workers.  Manage husbandry, mating, calving and the general health of the herd in consultation with local veterinary staff and farm owner.  Manage tilling, weed control, grazing rotations, cropping and silage.  Monitor and manage stock feed budgets. This includes calculating additional supplementary feed required and forecasting feed requirements based on historical data and pasture conditions.  Organise daily milking of cows. Track and record milking volumes / solids, including protein and fibre content, and address any animal health issues affecting milk production. Monitor cows to ascertain if they have become lame, anoestrous, dry or unproductive, and take appropriate action such as culling or administering treatment / medication.  Make certain dairy plant and equipment is maintained in accordance with dairy and hygiene standards, to ensure the safety of both animals and staff.  Complete all related documentation and bookwork, such as general accounts, PAYE and GST.

Responsibilities:  Oversee the health, milking and mating of the herd.  Effectively manage feed budgeting and cost controls.  Carry out general maintenance such as fencing, irrigation and spraying.  Assist with maintaining financial and farming records and organising the farm business plan.  Make extra feed including hay and silage.  Manage calving of the dairy herd, as well as rear calves and prepare them to milk in the herd.  Maintain equipment and farm vehicles, such as tractors.  Employ general farming employees to work on the farm. Responsibilities:  Provide high level assistance to Farm Manager on a daily basis.  Oversee farm operations in absence of Farm Manager and assist with recruitment when required.  Ensure farm vehicles and equipment are maintained to a very high standard.  Make sure all fencing is secure and mend any holes or broken posts.  Ensure milking shed and equipment are kept clean, tidy and free of hazards at all times in order to maintain optimum animal health and staff safety.
