Snow cover Mapping of Gangotri Glacier using Optical & Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Data for Hydrological Application in the Indian Himalayan Region. • Objective - To determine the snow cover area of Gangotri glacier catchment for the year 2022. • To delineate the snow line altitude for the year 2022 using Sentinel-2 data. • Integrated approach of freely available data, including both Optical Landsat 8 data were processed on Arc GIS Software as well as Sentinel-1 SAR data were pre processed on SNAP Software . • For the validation of methodology particular September month was selected because of availability in both modality. •Thus obtained data integrated with Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for the better understanding and to co-relate with topographical factors such as Elevation, Aspect and Slope. • Finally the mean snow line has been estimated with the help of computing histogram. Snow cover estimations help us to qualify for freshwater storage in the basin. Infrequent Snowfall is the primary source of creating avalanches. Hence accumulation of snow helps with the demarcation of the avalanche-prone areas. The study made can be compared with the previous studies to see the changing pattern of snowfall in changing climatic conditions whether it has changed or not?

Groundwater flow modelling using GMS Software and its Application of Electrical Resistivity Method. • Objective - Flow modeling using resistivity method • The study was conducted in Varavoor panchyath, Thrissur (Kerala) and data was collected with the help of Aquameter-CRM20. • Ten sample sites were selected in and around study area for collection of Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) data. • The Resistivity method's core steps comprise injecting an electric current into the ground directly through a pair of electrodes and measuring the resulting voltage between the second set of electrodes. • Field curves are plotted using apparent resistivity values versus depth and created computer-based inverse model matching with the model curve in ZOND IP software. • Geo-electrical parameters were obtained using qualitative and semi-quantitative interpretation approaches.

The primary purpose of conducting this field visit was to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Dharwar Craton, which is located in South India. The focus of the study was specifically directed towards exploring the significant rock formations within the Chitradurga Schist Belt. Additionally, another important objective of the visit was to acquire practical experience in utilizing various field mapping techniques. During the visit, the researchers aimed to gather comprehensive information about the Dharwar Craton, which is a geological region known for its ancient rock formations and complex geological history. By closely examining and taking the readings such as strike and dip of folds using the Brunton compass, a specific area within the Dharwar Craton, the team intended to gain insights into the geological processes that have shaped the region over millions of years. In summary, the studies were based mainly on the lithology and various structures of Chitradurga schist belt. • We identified and studied various rocks including Talya conglomerates, Fuchsite quartzite, Granite, Gneisses, and BIF. • The basic knowledge about various features including folds, unconformities, bedding and shear zones was made clear. • We also got familiar with the use of geological tools, mainly Brunton compass and how to measure the strike and dip of a formation. • We learned the basics of Plotting the field data on stereographic net • Locating ourselves on the map was a good exercise that we learned from the field.
