Irena Hartmann

In the past years as a consultant working for Elia Group my roles and responsibilities varied and evolved with time, but currently my time is split between two: data engineering & contributing to the data chapter as one of the subchapter leads for data engineers. I'm been a part of the Data Platform team oriented towards value discovery; I have been developing custom-made BI solutions, mainly in C#, with reporting in SSRS, and near-real-time reporting solutions built in C# in combination with OSISoft tools (PI Archive and PI Processbook). Additionally, I've been helping maintain existing SSIS and SSAS solutions, and collaborated with the Data Quality team in implementing business rules, using the NBi testing suite and related tools. For a while I was working as a part of the small but dynamic team working on implementing best practices in developing and maintaining a solution fully in Azure, doing end-to-end development from sourcing, through modeling and adapting the business-specific data transformations to reporting on the data, collaborating with our colleagues from Nemolink. Nowadays I'm also using a portion of my time to work more intensively as a part of the Data Chapter, as a Subchapter Lead for data engineers. My roots are firmly in IT: after obtaining a master's degree in informatics, I have been managing, customizing and supporting specific and business critical applications (finance applications, CRM, ERP, etc.), as a part of the internal IT services team at Business&Decision, documenting and peers training in order to decrease the amount of support and maximize efficiency across the company entities. During this period, I have gained experience in various fields and technologies, ranging from automating and scripting tasks, via software and data integration, to customization of SSIS packages and maintenance of DWHs. Working with the internal data of Business & Decision has become a strong motivation to dive deeper into Business Intelligence and pursue further experience and specialization in the domain. This has led to my position as responsible of development and maintenance of the internal Tabular Cube of Business & Decision and finally to a position of a Data Engineer.
