Lloyd's Salvage Group acts as the custodian of Lloyd's Open Form, the most commonly utilized salvage agreement in the world. The Group, chaired by the Lloyd's Form Appeal Arbitrator, and run by the Salvage Arbitration Branch of Lloyd's of London, brings together property insurers, liability insurers, vessel owners, the Admiralty Solicitor's Group, the Loyd's Form Arbitrators, the International Salvage Union and other interested parties. Ian represented the interests and views of the independent tanker owning sector in respect of salvage issues, SCOPIC and the drafting of the Lloyd's Standard Form of Salvage Agreement (LOF 2020).

Chair - Piracy Working Group
Focus on Somali piracy, developing, evolving and sharing best management practice as consequence of undertaking released crew de-briefings and attending physical vessel inspections post-release. As solicitor - facilitating, supporting and attending investigations/crew interviews with Interpol/NCIS/USCG on post hijack-released client vessels in Oman with a view to defending against seaworthiness based contractual and tort claims faced by the carrier/owner, including those in General Average.
