As the President of SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and System Vice President of Pediatric Services, I lead the clinical and operational activities of a nationally ranked, faith-based academic non-profit institution. As the lead executive at Cardinal Glennon Ministry, I oversee and direct both operational and clinical activities encompassing the children's hospital, clinics, and pediatric services within the SSM Health System. My responsibilities include formulating and executing short- and long-term objectives in alignment with the organization's broader priorities. Situated in St. Louis, Missouri, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital (CGCH) is a nationally ranked, faith-based academic non-profit institution. With a capacity of 195 beds, CGCH operates as a prominent pediatric medical center, providing both inpatient and outpatient care. Operating in collaboration with St. Louis University as the main academic partner, CGCH boasts a team of over 200 specialists across 60 medical subspecialties. Annually, SSM Health Cardinal Glennon admits over 7,000 patients, coordinates 173,000 outpatient visits, handles 53,000 Emergency Department patient visits, and conducts nearly 8,000 surgical procedures.

I had the honor of leading Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, a nationally acclaimed 240-bed referral center and teaching hospital in collaboration with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. This partnership served over 190,000 patients under the care of more than 350 pediatric physicians, specializing across 70 diverse pediatric subspecialties and programs. In my dual role, I was accountable for the operations of the hospital and the medical group, including all ambulatory clinics. In addition, partnering with the endowed chair of research, I oversaw the pediatric research portfolio for the department. As the executive in charge, I had full responsibility for overseeing the daily operations and financial performance of the pediatric clinical enterprise. This encompassed the continuum of patient care, including acute care services at the children’s hospital, an array of ambulatory clinics, and the management of over two hundred providers within the employed subspecialty medical group.

I served as the leader of Peyton Manning Children's Hospital, a clinically comprehensive children’s medical center, comprising of 170 licensed beds, notable for housing Indiana’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In my capacity as the senior executive in charge, I assumed responsibility for the day-to-day function of the hospital, overseeing a pediatric specialty medical group of over 150 members. My role encompassed strategic guidance, financial oversight, physician productivity management, fundraising initiatives, staff recruitment endeavors, and the formulation of clinical program enhancements.

In this role, my duties were similar to a CMO/VPMA, where I coordinated clinical operations and served as a resource in medical staff credentialing, reappointment, and peer review. I led quality assurance and improvement in many departments and assisted in growth strategy, hospital/physician alignment, and service line development. I was the lead pediatric physician on BayCare’s Government Relations team.

I was a content expert, clinical advisor and educator on clinical and regulatory aspects of acute care management/denials including insurance specific care guidelines and policies. I led the utilization management department for the system and directed the physician advisor program. I performed medical review of charts for utilization of services and quality of care assurance and tasked with oversight of all adverse determination cases, preauthorization and precertification reviews, as well as concurrent and retrospective appeals. I served as the senior physician advisor to BayCare’s Managed Care department for all insurance contracting.
