I was extremely excited to have learnt from the one and only certified Clinical Pilates instructor for physiotherapists based in Australia. I am certified in Clinical Pilates and look forward to applying this skill set for my future clients and patients for chronic pain management.

After being in the private teaching sector for 5-6 years, being part of an education centre was the next step for me. I was lucky enough to have met really experienced and committed teachers to ensure students acquire the skillset of lifelong learning. I worked alongside with MOE teachers in creating educational materials for the students and find creative ways in teaching. Mathematics and sciences have always been my strongest and naturally I picked up teaching those subjects along the way.

The 5 weeks attachment at the Day Rehabilitation Centre at Yishun Community Hospital saw patients who mostly underwent total knee replacement and total hip replacement surgeries. I explore different way of intervention learning from senior physiotherapists on site on how to progress patients. We received tutorials on balance training and the different aspects to balance, integral for elderly in preventing falls.

Teaching as always been a passion on the side and exploring private teaching was a natural progression. I've gathered experience from teaching students from Primary 1 to Secondary 4 levels throughout the years, mainly focused on Mathematics, Science and Chinese subject.

Was attached here for 6 weeks at the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) for my Neurological Physiotherapy attachment. This was also the attachment where I learn how to read CT brain scans from my clinical educator and draw interpretations on how patients would likely present like. I was exposed to patients who were on extra-ventricular drainage while conducting therapy for them. I had the opportunity to use the Bobath plinth and tilt table to provide more functional therapy for my patients in the ASU. Multi-disciplinary meetings were conducted weekly, compromising of the medical team, occupational therapists and medical social worker to ensure continuity of care and that the needs of patients are met.

Was attached here with Physiotherapist Amanda, learning under her wing in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. I saw patients from all walks of life who underwent various operations as well. Most cases were low back pain, elbow injuries, ankle sprains, post ACL recon, post meniscus recon, post lumbar laminoplasty and total knee replacement. Patient education plays an integral part during our consultation to ensure continuity of care and ensuring patients understand their own condition(s).

Another 6 weeks internship at CGH learning from the senior physiotherapists on site. I was mainly exposed to cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, seeing post General Surgery cases, Lung and Heart complications cases. One of the most memorable learning experience due to the steep learning curve but I'm glad I ended the internship with many takeaways!

This was a 4 years, direct honours degree programme to get professionally trained in the field of physiotherapy. We are theoretically-grounded and clinically-oriented to the various sector in physiotherapy such as Intermediate Long term Care, Musculoskeletal, Neurological, Cardiopulmonary physiotherapy.
