These services need to be extremely performant with 99.5% up-time as the data/telemetry captured by MiX Telematics is used largely to ensure driver safety. For that reason data loss or even any delay in data reaching the client's browser is not acceptable.

I have been appointed at MiX Telematics to assist the team that is developing the next generation framework that will carry their products into the future. As a team we are tasked with developing a platform that will be the foundation for all future products at MiX Telematics. As a part of the process we dissect the problems continuously faced by other teams in the company by speaking with all the stake-holders/role players, learning from their successes and failures. We then design and implement a reusable component that solves this problem in an optimal way that is acceptable not only by product management but also by the developers that will be using these components.

I have been appointed at Triple Point Technologies as a .Net Expert for their Cape Town development office. My responsibilities include: * Defining best practices / development standards / coding standards for .NET development. * Make sure that all new .Net development is done in accordance with the new standards. * Assist them in migrating the system from a 2 Tier to an N Tier architecture. This includes research on new technologies and frameworks and selecting that which is best suited for us. * Designing and implementing a new architecture with the help and cooperation of other senior developers familiar with the system.

I mainly worked in C#.Net writing Windows based applications and class libraries. Some of the programs/code that I have written at Saflec Systems include, *A code generator that generates thread safe object oriented code for any relational database (OLEDB). *A service for controlling the Goldfinger system *Redesigned and re-wrote an old VB6 application in C#.NET *VIDOS CCTV Integration API *Integration with various biometric technologies

In your final year of any degree in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Pretoria, all students have to work in groups of 5 and develop a software solution for a real world problem for a real world client. This project runs the entire year and involves everything from the initial analysis and design to the implementation of a software package. I was the teem leader for this project and our group was one of the best of the year.

Being the head tutor for the first year Java module, I was in charge of a number of teaching assistants. I had to schedule their working hours and hand out work to them ( marking of exam papers etc. ) and then handle any student queries regarding the work and mark allocation. I also presented weekly lectures on the practical side of the work being covered at that time.

I was part of the teem that developed a cutting edge P.O.S. system for use in the restaurant industry, The system was adopted by big chains like cappuccinos. The system ran on Linux using a MySQL database server and could interface with all popular P.O.S. hardware. The company unfortunately went under due to bad management and planning...

I have completed all requirements for the degree and found it very insightful. I believe that it has broadened my vision significantly on what the industry has to offer. Balancing a full time career with the strain of a post graduate degree also taught me valuable time management skills. For my year project, I developed and built a hand geometry identification / verification device using some CF-Lightbulbs and a web-cam. My custom recognition algorithms proved very successful. I won the top honours project prize for the year.
