I work with the urban and rural communities around our facilities (across locations) through various Community development projects for meaningful and lasting impacts.

Have led the Terai Arc Landscape for WWF (India) in Corbett-Rajaji landscape in Uttarakhand between 2008-10. This landscape is the habitat of the three big mammals- the Tiger, the Elephant, and the Rhino. I had overall responsibility for this Landscape. I have worked on capacity building of the Forest department and local NGOs; developing alternative livelihoods options for communities; curbing poaching, and policy influencing and advocacy. I also worked with impacted communities and managed a large compensation project. The role also required working with Government and Non-Government stakeholders, communities, media and policy makers.

Worked with (Shell) Hazira LNG and Port Project as Team Leader for Social Performance between 2006-2008. While at Hazira, I was the focal point for implementation of the Social Performance plan, development of new activities, Stakeholder engagement, Community relations, Rehabilitation, Liaison with concerned Government departments (Revenue, Forest, Irrigation, Rural Development). Specifically, I was responsible for implementation of India’s largest corporate funded Mangrove Project; design and rollout of Skill Development Programs for stakeholders; improvement in living conditions and health services in labour camps and oversight of the NGO partners. I was closely embedded with business development and permitting team (specially aspects related to public hearing components of the EIA process).

Worked with the Brooke Hospital for Animals for a short period in 2006. I worked on welfare of the equines and the communities dependent on them for their livelihoods in the rural and urban areas of western UP- specifically Meerut, Bagpath, Mujaffarnagar, Sahraranpur and Bulandsahar districts.

After completing my post-graduation, I had joined the Foundation for Ecological Security (Anand) in 1991 and remained with FES till 2006, working in various roles. (FES is a part of the NDDB’s rural interventions). I headed the Munsiari Mountain Project, working in the tri-junction of India with Tibet and Nepal. I managed the team working with village communities in over 150 villages, spread over an area of 2240 square kms, in altitudes ranging from 590 meters to 7434 meters (at the summit of the Nandadevi). I have supported creation of around 200 small NGOs/CBOs/Cooperatives. This includes legal aspects related to creation, annual audits, trainings and support in financial management, reporting systems etc. While bulk of my work in FES was in Uttaranchal, I have also worked extensively with tribal communities in Rajasthan, Gujarat and MP.
