Plans, directs, organizes, and coordinates operations for all areas of the clinical laboratory, including Pathology and Microbiology. Provides leadership and directions to all members of the laboratory staff by organizing, managing activities. Manages the overall activity of the laboratory ensuring the integrity of results, and the competency of all personnel. Manage vendor relationship including new instrument selection and contract negotiation. Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent regulatory requirements and provides direction in establishing proficiency in all testing areas. Keeps abreast of the latest educational information and new techniques. Works closely with Lab Director, Quality Assurance/Microbiology Manager, and the Technical Consultant. Responsible for the overall operation of a high throughput testing laboratory including quality and regulatory compliance, complex strategic planning. Monitors laboratory processes to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained (including review of QC, equipment maintenance, other QA). Ensures that remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from laboratory established performance specifications. Verifies that staff are trained and competent prior to testing patient samples. Ensure that all competency staff are completed in a timely manner. Ensures staff compliance with all policies and procedures. Documents all procedural deviations from established SOPs and test non-conformities for review by directorial staff. Resolves daily technical problems and documents them for review by directorial staff. Coordinates laboratory staff for efficient workflow; reviews pending logs, records and investigates outliers. Monitors daily Quality Control results and investigates any out-of-range results. Reviews instrument maintenance program documentation on a routine basis.

Oversee the daily operation for the Chemistry department. Provides immediate supervision to chemistry technologists, assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals, and maintaining schedules. Oversee product release testing, stability testing, in-process testing, and other protocol testing. Oversees various Quality Control testing. Oversee the review of test record results for accuracy.
