About

I am most concerned about the ways in which high-level decisions affect those at the margins and seek to support community-sanctioned solutions through health and policy interventions.

I evaluated a state statute that provides a tax incentive to property owners who enter into 35-year affordable housing leases with nonprofit organizations. My analysis considered the current incentives afforded by the statute and built out elements of a cohesive policy package to increase utilization and promote health and housing affordability throughout the city. I proposed a low-interest loan program to fund building renovations and three implementation scenarios.

The Alliance for Boys and Men of Color is a coalition of change agents committed to improving the life chances of California’s boys and young men of color. The Alliance includes youth, community organizations, foundations, and leaders in government, education, public health, and law enforcement and is made up of local coalitions that inform policy reforms at the state and local levels. As a Project Coordinator at Fathers & Families of San Joaquin, I organized the formation of a local Alliance coalition in San Joaquin County that included community stakeholders in law enforcement, social services, and education. I developed a framework for prioritizing areas of work among coalition partners and advised workgroups on the proposal of meaningful policy changes, such as establishing mandated case management for youth exiting juvenile hall to ensure immediate re-enrollment in school. Finally, I worked with staff to coordinate two regional conferences and one legislative hearing of over 300 participants in order to report on the group’s progress at the state level.

I planned and conducted an administrative study to ensure fewer children were removed from their home after committing a crime as part of a Title IV-E Federal Waiver Demonstration project. I obtained required information for analysis through qualitative interviews with probation officers and administrators, literature review, and best practices research; evaluated alternatives and made recommendations. Recommended the department adopt a Parent Partner program to save money, improve youth outcomes, and increase parent voice and partnership within the department that was endorsed and implemented by Chief of Juvenile Probation and the Human Services Agency Director. Developed and prepared justifications for a five-year, $10 million budget using revenue and expenditure projections.
