I grew up in the UNESCO Global Geopark known as the Shetland Islands in the North of Scotland. When I was 17 I began my apprenticeship as a restoration stonemason and during this period I was based in Glasgow, Scotland. I worked on some of Scotland's finest buildings, including Culzean Castle, the National Library of Scotland, Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, the Duke of Hamilton's Hunting Lodge, and various others. In 1990, I arrived in Canada and have lived here ever since. I have been lucky enough to work for some of the top stonemasonry companies in Canada. In 2001, I started on my own as Hamish Hunter Stonemason. Specialties: I do everything with Natural Stone from Sourcing to Fabrication Installation and Restoration. My training ensures the highest quality natural stonework, including natural stone walls and pillars, natural stone fireplace surrounds, window sills, lentils etc. I can carve stone by hand to any shape or desired moulding OR for multiple piece projects I have recently installed a CNC bridge saw in my workshop that can produce multiple units of dimensional limestone for domestic or commercial construction projects in a timely manner.
