From Al-Ghariyah to Beirut, Cairo, Paris, to New York, I am a diplomat & a statesman. I have served Qatar both as ambassador to 12 countries, to the UN and its various agencies and as Minister (of Information & Culture then Culture, Arts, Heritage). I am candidate for Director-General of UNESCO 2017. Dialogue has no boundaries and is transnational, intercultural. We must enrich and preserve the world's cultures in order to encourage peaceful intercultural coexistence, and better understanding. Only through education can we attain these goals, towards a New Momentum.

Heading the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, I am responsible for the: - Organization of cultural festivals in Qatar and elsewhere in brotherly countries; - Organization of cultural events and activities such as symposia, lectures and poetry recitals; - Production and presentation of theater, folklore shows, music, and lyric concerts; - Organization of Qatari weeks abroad and hosting cultural weeks of brotherly countries; - Organization of arts and heritage exhibitions; - Publication and distribution of books and compilations in relation with culture, translating outstanding intellectual and literary works into Arabic and vice-versa; - Documentation of popular heritage, organizing and animating heritage events and celebrations; - Organization the yearly Doha Book Fair and participating in Arab and foreign book fairs; - Discovery of young talent by organizing cultural, scientific and religious symposia and contests.

A staunch advocate of freedom of information and the press in Qatar, I instituted the end of the censorship regulations on newspapers and publications. This initiative ultimately led to the creation of the Doha Centre for Media Freedom in 2007.
