Gulsum Gudukbay Akbulut

I’m Gulsum Gudukbay Akbulut, a Member of Technical Staff at AMD, in the Machine Learning Frameworks JAX team. I help enable JAX for AMD ROCm platforms, ensuring smooth performance and compatibility across diverse hardware setups. I also maintain the ROCm MaxText repository, to support users that build LLMs on AMD systems.Before joining AMD, I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Penn State. My doctoral research focused on performance optimization and resource allocation for emerging architectures and high-performance computing applications. I explored ways to improve energy efficiency in processors, dynamic scheduling in multi-GPU systems, and compiler-guided optimization for multithreaded workloads. That experience shaped my interest in performance and scalability in real-world ML environments. I’m passionate about supporting and maintaining JAX for ROCm, helping ensure that AMD users can run their workloads efficiently. I enjoy working with the open-source community to improve framework reliability and performance.
