I have worked in corporate communications for 18 years at Itaú Unibanco, Latin America’s largest private bank. When I joined, it had a very conservative and low profile communications approach and I helped the bank to take its reputation to the next level. Nowadays Itaú Unibanco is recognized as the most respectable company in the Brazilian financial sector. During those years I have helped to build the bank’s corporate communications area, throughout a set of processes and governance standards, which allowed me to participate in key moments of the company’s recent history: the merger between Itaú and Unibanco, the acquisition of BankBoston’s operations in Latin America and the merger with CorpBanca in Chile. I can see that the work I have done stimulated the bank’s management mindset to shift to a more high profile way of engaging with stakeholders.
