Staff Software Engineer
Vancouver, BC
I am part of a tight-knit team of developers, working on vdp.opentech.eco. It's a Python / Django backend with a React frontend, and I intervene at any point of the stack where my impact is most useful. Lately, I've been focusing on infrastructure, increasing reliability of our job pipelines and evolving our data schema to support upcoming growth. I mentor developers, explore ideas and build prototypes (nowadays, lots of Claude Code - based workflows), and keep an eye of what our products may look like and need in the future.

I have been running my own software consultancy for almost 4 years and I’ve been participating in various projects, as a developer and consultant, spending about 75% of my time coding, the rest organizing other freelance developers and designers around these projects. - Remote control end-to-end solution for outdoor saunas, from the mobile app to a SARA IoT card with a cellular modem, going through an AWS IoT stack. - Feature development and bug fixes on the Ruby on Rails app Climate Smart, now owned by Bank of Montreal. - Overhaul of the React Native app Gottman Card Decks (ES6, React, React-native, iOS and Android SDKs and their app store deployment pipelines). - Multi-currency, multi-timezone transition of the photography booking app pop-in portraits (Ruby, RoR) - Design, development and maintenance of various Zendesk Support apps (JS, React, integration with 3rd party APIs)

Founder

Melbourne, Australia - Vancouver, Canada
Pacific Bohemian Pty Ltd was my first foray in running a business. It served me well, supported my transition to self employment and taught me some important lessons both as a software engineer and a small scale business owner. I've worked on projects involving all my specialty areas: JS, React, Ruby on Rails and Swift.

Senior Software Engineer
Melbourne, Australia
I contracted for a year for Zendesk, a market leader in online customer support solutions. I was working on migrating multiple small JavaScript apps to consume a new version of an internal API. It involved legacy code base refactoring and moving to a modern tool set (Webpack, Jasmine / Jest, Node, ES6). As the most senior developer in a team of 4, I was driving exploratory work and ensuring best practices throughout the team and code bases. Pushing for unification of code bases and practices was a big focus of mine.

Frontend Developer
Melbourne, Australia
I worked for the company behind themeforest.net, one of the biggest online Wordpress themes marketplaces in the World. I worked for a year in the Studio team, which is behind studio.envato.com, a freelance designer / developer marketplace. I then became Delivery Lead for a team of 4 developers in charge of the Loading Bay. It’s a revamped tool to let authors bulk edit and upload all the types of assets served through Envato's various marketplaces. I kept focusing on the frontend side, building services with React, Flux, Redux, Sagas, on node and webpack-based apps, and using advanced CSS techniques (live styleguide, BEM, SMACSS, PostCSS, CSS Modules) to develop and maintain responsive web apps.

I worked for the company behind realestate.com.au, the biggest real estate website in Australia. I’ve participated in a wide variety of projects: - Ad development for a new ad spot on the homepage. Pretty basic project in theory, but we were given a tight deadline and poorly built prototype. I was leading a team of 3 other developers on this project to transform a one-off ad sale into a sustainable weekly updated premium ad. It became the biggest revenue generator for my line of business. - Development of suburbs.realestate.com.au, a beta tool to help people find what suburbs they may enjoy living in. Originally a rather monolithic AngularJS app, I pushed for a better modularization of the code base. - Development and maintenance of realestate.com.au/invest, a section specifically dedicated to home owners interested in investment properties. It was originally built by REA’s external team in X’ian, China. We worked for 2 months with a remote pair of developers over there. It’s an AngularJS app served by a RoR stack. It also depends on a few different data crunching processes built in Ruby and hosted on AWS. I helped design, build and maintain many different parts of this system. My favorite tasks were to implement the challenging design features while maintaining responsiveness and code base quality (application of SMACSS, working with CartoDB, a 3rd party data mapping solution), and challenging product decisions with in-house iPad-based guerrilla testing. On top of my technical skills, I regularly lead meetings, retrospectives and personal development activities. Avid visual thinker, I frequently produced sketch notes. I also mentored junior to intermediate developers on a daily basis.
