Senior Research Associate

As a member of the histology core team within the Translation department I provided an end-to-end histology solution for Encoded research. The matrix-like organization of this research meant I was embedded into multiple disease specific projects and worked with those teams to handle all histology related aspects. Early projects required assay development and tight coordination with in vivo teams to create assays to screen for development candidates. As these candidates matured, I helped move them into NHP studies and eventually to IND filings. I can do all aspects of designing, performing, quantifying, summarizing and presenting histology research for the advancement of disease modifying gene therapies.

Research Associate II
As a Research Associate II, I performed multiplexed fluorescent immunohistochemistry and various other histology tasks. This required me to conduct literature searches to find antibodies for project critical proteins and optimize them for use in multiplexed IHC assays in mouse and NHP tissues. I routinely performed whole slide fluorescent and brightfield imaging using an Akoya Polaris instrument.

Lab Assistant II
UCLA Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
As part of the Brain Tumor Translational Resource lab within the Pathology Department, I was on-call and responsible for fresh tissue procurement from neurosurgery as well as fixed and frozen tissue procurement and storage in a biobank. Daily laboratory operations for both organizations included microtome and cryostat sectioning as well as IHC using both manual and auto-stainer platforms. This role required me to manage the many aspects of histology including tissue handling, embedding, sectioning, staining and pathologist collaboration

In order to facilitate HIV research, I was primarily responsible for fulfilling tissue requests and shipping them to various research labs around the country.
