About

I believe in the power of stories to enact change because stories are our instruction manuals of life, the lens we look at the world through, and the mirror we see ourselves in. I work to create stories that empower individuals and guide organizations to better themselves and the world. I am an entrepreneurial nonprofit leader who thrives in environments of creativity and innovation. I have a successful track record in administration, fundraising, marketing, communications, and programming at national literary organizations. I skillfully manage and execute projects from conception to implementation, and I am able to build partnerships and collaborations internally and in the community. Administration: developed collaborative and high-performing teams, managed staff and board development, initiated strategic planning, and managed $1 million+ budgets. Fundraising: secured major gifts from individuals and corporations, wrote foundation and government grant proposals, oversaw special events, built and maintained membership bases, and developed fundraising strategies and annual campaigns. Marketing: developed and managed national marketing campaigns across online platforms and print publications, produced marketing materials, led public relations efforts that resulted in coverage in national media outlets, and managed website redesigns and social media campaigns. Public speaking: presented at national conferences on creative writing, publishing, and education, including the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Associated Writing Programs Conference, Book Expo America, and the Chicago Humanities Festival. Written work: published essays on creativity in numerous journals, including The New York Times, Poets & Writers, Lit Hub, and Writer’s Digest. Published fiction in dozens of journals, including The Southwest Review, the Gettysburg Review, and Five Points. Published two collections of stories, All the Comfort Sin Can Provide and Fissures and two books on writing, Pep Talks for Writers: 52 Insights and Prompts to Boost Your Creative Mojo and Brave the Page. The Art of Brevity was published in 2023. "Somewhere out there in the distance," a flash novel, is forthcoming in fall of 2025 Specialties: Strategic planning, scaling, community building, cultivating strong ambitious teams, marketing, public relations, content strategy, internal communications, writing, high-level fundraising, cross-sector partnerships, board development, pro-bono volunteerism, diversity cultivation and retention, product development, podcasting, and speaking on behalf of company and cause.
