About
Through my diverse hands-on experience, I offer hard-to-find, applied, problem solving skills which apply to a variety of engineering contexts. In the fiber optics industry, my experience extends from analyzing and optimizing production line performance, to new product qualification to connector and component design. Examples of projects include analyzing connector mechanical performance, and helping develop design changes to address weak-points, while working around intermateability standards and industry standard parts. Development of production tools to reduce worker fatigue ease connector assembly/disassembly and improve process flow. And designing cable furcation solutions based on field installation stresses, environments, and internal strength requirements. All within the context of industry standards such as TIA and IEC standards, using them to guide product development and ensure compatibility and compliance. Outside of fiber optics, my experience is bolstered by working in a laminate flooring production line. Through this, I am familiar with automation design, PLC control and long-term machine wear tracking and maintenance. My MIG welding and metal working experience started with restoring a 1969 MGB GT. This included welding a rotisserie for the chassis, repairing rust, and fabricating custom brackets for a Buick V8, T-5 transmission and custom coil-over suspension. I carried that experience into contract welding working fabricating custom metal furniture for design firms. Using band-saws, table saws, jig-saws, and routers to make products. In my free time I run my own 3D printing business, Cardinal manufacturing. Cardinal Manufacturing is a part time project where I design custom parts in Solidworks for clients and produce them using FDM and SLA 3D printers. I am always excited to learn new skills and I look forward to applying my existing, valuable skills to new opportunities.
