Glenda Cardoso

Marketing and communications professional passionate about health and wellness, I have followed a path of personal transformation that led me to start a career transition into Nutrition (I will graduate in 2025). My own weight loss journey, during which I lost an incredible 100kg, awakened in me the determination and resilience needed to help others face their own challenges with obesity — and this has become my life’s mission. Driven by this passion to understand the multifactorial aspects behind the disease, I pursued specialization in Obesity and Weight Management, as well as Bariatric Nutrition, under the guidance of one of Brazil’s top experts, Dr. Silvia Leite. Throughout my professional career, I’ve had the privilege of working in various settings, including politics — at the Legislative Assembly — and in healthcare companies, where I contributed to meaningful projects that positively impacted people’s lives. A highlight was organizing a public hearing on obesity in 2014 alongside then Federal Deputy Mara Gabrilli (now Senator) and State Deputy Celia Leão. Based on my personal experience, I’ve learned that obesity care goes far beyond restrictive diets and physical activity. It is a complex condition that requires an integrative and broad approach, taking into account biological, emotional, environmental, and social factors. With this understanding, I’ve been committed to raising awareness and advocating for a multidisciplinary, compassionate, and human-centered treatment approach. Currently, I focus my efforts on Obesity Care Advocacy, using my knowledge and lived experience to educate others on the importance of comprehensive, stigma-free care for people living with obesity. This includes sharing evidence-based information on obesity and bariatric surgery through social media content, public speaking, interviews, workshops, events, and conferences. I actively participate in initiatives and events held by the Painel Brasileiro da Obesidade, Obesidade Brasil, Movimento Lipedema, FórumCCNTs and CDD. In addition, I work as a marketing and communications consultant for doctors and clinics, helping them with patient acquisition, strategic marketing planning, and communication — always focusing on the patient experience and using a respectful, clear, and welcoming language.
