About

Bachelor of Biological Sciences from Centro Universitário das Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas - FMU (2020). Scientific Initiation at IB-USP funded by Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) (2018-2020). Master of Science (General Physiology) from the University of São Paulo (2023) and is currently a PhD student at the Laboratory of Comparative Physiology of Pigmentation of the Department of Physiology of the Biosciences Institute of the University of São Paulo. She has worked with scientific communication since 2017. She is a student representative of the Women in Physiology Commission of the Brazilian Society of Physiology (SBFis). His research focuses on the effect of temperature on the endocrine system and the regulation of gene and protein expression of photo and thermoreceptors and the molecular machinery of the biological clock of mammals and crustaceans. It uses q-PCR, PCR, hormonal quantification, immunocytochemistry and histochemistry, cell culture and Western-Blot techniques. Email: giovannazanetti@usp.br

Master in General Physiology from the Department of General Physiology of the Institute of Biosciences (IB) of the University of São Paulo. In my master's degree, I investigated the role of Melanopsin in Mammal Thermoregulation. In mammals, melanopsin is a retinal photopigment found in a subset of intrinsically photosensitive ganglion cells (ipRGCs), which play a role in synchronizing the central circadian pacemaker with the light-dark cycle. It was discovered that peripheral tissues express melanopsin, with the heart being the organ with the highest expression. The heart is responsible for producing and secreting hormones known as natriuretic peptides (NPs), which increase in serum concentration after cold challenges. In addition, the influence of temperature on the expression of natriuretic peptide receptors in brown adipose tissue (BAT) was established: mice, when challenged by low temperature, release NPs that act on BAT, favoring thermogenesis. The project evaluated the participation of melanopsin in cardiac and brown adipose tissue responses in wild-type and melanopsin knockout mice subjected to cold.
