1. System Design & Architecture Design scalable and efficient backend systems that handle high volumes of requests and large datasets. Ensure systems are highly available, reliable, and fault-tolerant to meet Safaricom’s performance standards. Implement microservices architecture for scalability and modularity. 2. Backend Development Develop and maintain backend services using programming languages like Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript, or other relevant technologies. Write and optimize APIs (RESTful, GraphQL) for efficient communication between services and client applications. Build database schemas and optimize queries for data access, leveraging technologies like PostgreSQL, SQL, and NoSQL databases. 3. Database Management Work with NoSQL and relational databases to design data models that fit the application’s needs. Optimize database performance for high concurrency and low latency, ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval. Implement data migrations, backups, and replication for disaster recovery. 4. Integration and APIs Integrate backend services with third-party APIs and ensure smooth data flow between systems. Work with other teams to develop and integrate business-critical services that interface with mobile applications, web apps, and other backend systems. 5. Performance Tuning & Optimization Identify bottlenecks in performance and implement optimizations to handle large-scale traffic (e.g., high data throughput and request volume). Implement caching strategies Redis to reduce response times and minimize load on backend systems. Monitor system metrics and logs to proactively address any performance or availability issues. 6. DevOps & Continuous Integration Collaborate with DevOps engineers to ensure smooth deployment pipelines, automated testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD). Use CI/CD tools to automate testing, deployment, and monitoring to ensure high-quality releases.
