Worked two summers as a weed science research assistant at the Throckmorton Purdue Agricultural Center. Prepared mixtures of herbicides, applied the herbicides to plots of corn and soybeans and rated the concentration of weeds in the plots throughout the summers. Became familiar with operating farm equipment as well as the current software for entering weed concentration data.

Completed miscellaneous tasks including claim analysis, medical data input, and purchaser contact. Utilized Excel spreadsheets for analysis and completed comprehensive project at summer’s end involving extensive phone contact and mass mailing. Learned about medical utilization and reimbursement.

My thesis involved studying how abiotic and biotic factors influence refuge use at the organismal and community level. I discovered through the use of artificial cover objects that both forest structure and seasonal variation influence vertebrate diversity in the southeastern U.S.A. I also found through a controlled experiment where refuge was manipulated that immune activation can affect the prioritization of refuge use vs. thermoregulation.

I teach three sections of a biology lecture course and three sections of a biology lab course to students at Pierce County High School as part of the Move On When Ready program of Georgia.
