Responsible for maintenance and outages of the San Miguel Electric Cooperative. The San Miguel plant has to be the toughest maintenace assignment in the world: 3% sulfur, 30% ash, 30% moisture, and no redundancy of key components. Reported directly to CEO/General Manager. Manager of 56 full time personnel and a varying number of contract employees. Served as outage manager and scheduler during outages with approximately 120 full-time and temporary workers and from 250 to 500 contractor workers. Successfully managed 7 major planned outages and scores of minor outages. Served as “acting general manager” during general manager’s absence. Made one or more presentation at most meetings of the San Miguel board of directors.

Managed the maintenance of scrubbers, scr's, precipitators, and all associated equipment for a the 2600 MW Paradise Plant. Responsible for 45 full time maintenance and operations personnel. Developed the MIP (mechanical integrity plan) for the SCR ammonia related equipment and PSM related processes.

The role of the Process Superintendent is to optimize all operations, maintenance, supply chain, compliance and any other areas that touch the process. Interfaced with railroads, contractors, regulators, coal suppliers and fuel procurers. Also was responsible for the plants fuel oil procurement and storage. Management responsibility for 15 operators and a planner.

* Worked on construction and start-up of turn-key industrial co-gen power projects. Experience included the installation and start-up of all components in a typical power plant. Served as construction superintendent on a large fuel-handling project. Projects included: Cornerbrook Pulp and Paper Co-gen. in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland * Demag-Delaval Boiler Project in Trenton, New Jersey * Towanda Energy Project (Masonite Corporation) in Towanda, Pennsylvania * and Appleton Papers Boiler Project in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania. Each assignment lasted 3-8 months.

Worked with adviser Dr. Gary Vliet on solar energy related research. Thesis work involved developing 2 models that served to optimized the storage (battery) and collector arrangement based upon the persistence of weather patterns in a given location. Research was funded by the Austin Energy and NREL.

Worked 8 quarters as a Co-op Intern at 2 Georgia Power positions. First position was in the Electrical Distribution department in Macon, Georgia. Second Position was at the High Voltage Research and Test Center in Forest Park, Georgia.

Plant Manager of the Bonanza Station (500 MW) and the Diamond Mountain Limestone Mine. Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Environmental and Safety departments report to this position. Key participant at each meeting (monthly) of Deseret’s Board of Directors. Presented “Operations Report” at each board meeting. Participant on joint-ownership committee dealing with Deseret’s interests and 115 MW ownership in Pacificorp’s Hunter Plant. Frequently presented at hearings, chamber of commerce, civic groups, or anything else impacting Deseret’s interests. Completed a record 485 days without a tube leak or forced outage during tenure. All of Bonanza’s historical operations records were substantially exceeded during tenure. Reported directly to CEO.
