In 2014 FastNed founder Bart Lubbers approached me with the idea to exploit fast charging stations in the Netherlands. Ever since then I have been supporting and advising FastNed from the board of the foundation FAST. FastNed has now grown to maintain the larges fast charging network in the world.

“No more bulky reports and especially none based on outdated traffic models!” “But what then?”, I asked. “Instead of constantly trying to predict a likely future, we should focus on designing a desirable future”, architect and urban planner Walter Dresscher told me during our first meeting. And so, we did: we made analyses based on 150 reports for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Prorail, and the Amsterdam Metropolitan area. About 18 months ago, I helped Quinten Selhorst and Maarten Poot realize their dream in getting a scooter-sharing service off the ground in Amsterdam. I thought it was an excellent idea and provided them with my network and my know-how. And successfully so: within a year, Felyx was born. From May 14th until the 14th of July 2018, there will be a new campaign in place promoting increased travel to and from work by public transport, bicycle and electric car. I have developed, set up and executed this campaign multiple times. From 2017, I have incorporated this Campaign in a separate foundation named Reisbeweging in which I still provide support and advice in the background.

Five years ago, I invested in Tim Kreukniet’s company Energy Transition New York as a way of stimulating Dutch Cleantech companies in the United States. Some of the most notable successes are EV BOX USA (selling Dutch charging poles: https://www.evbox.us/), with which Tim Kreukniet is currently actively involved on the West Coast, and Viricity (making transparent all the data surrounding electric fleets of, among others, busses: https://www.viriciti.com/nl/)

Vereniging DOET (Dutch Organization for Electric Transport) is a branch association for about 100 businesses in the field of electric transport in The Netherlands. In 2009, I was in Rotterdam at a gathering for entrepreneurs in the field of electric transport. The most important advice they gave us was to form a united front enabling us to counterbalance Rai and Bovag and their established industrial interests. This advice resulted in me establishing branch association DOET. Going from 0 to around 80 members, and as an association, we were finally able to sit down at the negotiating table and truly impact change, even in the Formula E team.

I give lectures, workshops, and strategic advice on top of being available as chair for the day for your event. My areas of expertise are urban accessibility and livability, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Both nationally and internationally I support and initiate projects and companies contributing to society. The solutions I propose don’t come about through locking myself in a conference room or burying my nose in books. The key issues often cannot be identified from merely studying proposed models in the reports: My work starts on location where I find out exactly where the shoe pinches. I believe that more often than not, a solution can be found.

At PwC I was active for over a year as Senior Advisor at several large companies within mobility such as PON, Leaseplan, Connexxion and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment. In one year I had a rare and clear look behind the scenes of one of the Netherlands largest accountancy firms.
