Gary Nabel

Dr. Gary Nabel is co-founder, President and CEO of ModeX Therapeutics, an OPKO Health company developing innovative multispecific immunotherapies for cancer and infectious disease. He also serves as Chief Innovation Officer of OPKO Health. Dr. Nabel worked at the National Institutes of Health from 1999 to 2012 where he served as founding Director of the Vaccine Research Center, leading major advances in vaccine development and providing overall direction and scientific leadership of basic, clinical and translational research activities to advance novel vaccine strategies. He served as Chief Scientific Officer at Sanofi from 2012 to 2020. During his tenure at Sanofi, he led the Breakthrough Laboratory where he and his collaborators developed the first trispecific antibody now in development for HIV. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, fellow of the Association of American Physicians, the American Academy of the Arts and Sciences, the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. He acted as the Chair of the Board for the Keystone Scientific Symposia from 2017 to 2019, and served as an Editor for the Journal of Virology from 1995-2005.
