As President of the ETFO Niagara Occasional Teacher Local I managed all aspects of the affairs of the Local, numbering 600+ members. Collective bargaining proposals, negotiating assistance (in concert with, or at odds with, the "big dogs" from Toronto), discipline against members, grievances, professional development, action research, and various meeting facilitation and presentations. Membership engagement grew under my leadership from average attendance of about 20 members to 90 - 100 members. Engaged nearly 100% in strike actions during the 2012 school year, the only Occasional Teacher Local that was given its own action plan without needing to join with the (larger) adjoining teacher local. Managed $100,000 funding over a yearly basis, with release time, professional development and other budgetary items.

Acting Captain is the starting spot for filling a permanent Captain's role once a spot opens up and you progress of the list of eligible candidates. It is a chance to learn the job and to gain some experience in the officer's role.

The DSBN is home to 88 elementary schools and 18 secondary schools in the 12 municipalities that make up the Niagara Region. We are proud to serve over 36,000 students each year. The DSBN is governed by a Board of 11 elected trustees.Providing students with a quality public education that empowers them with the knowledge and desire to chase their dreams requires a continuous team effort. It demands that our teachers, principals, support staff, senior administration and trustees maintain an unwavering focus on student learning.
