Garry Sotnik

I am a sustainability scientist pursuing transformative change that achieves equity, inclusion, and intergenerational well-being. As part of my work, I support communities and organizations with theory of change development, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, and cross-sector partnerships. I also develop AI-based strategic planning tools that simulate the co-evolutionary dynamics between micro-level human decision-making and macro-level social-ecological outcomes. I hold a Master’s in Economics and a PhD in Systems Science. My experience includes working for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization on developing social protection and resilience in the Middle East, conducting research at the University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability on improving decision-making and adaptation to policy and climate change in the United States, and teaching graduate-level courses at Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability on decision-making, strategic planning, and transformative societal change.
