I recently Presented a paper to the IPWEA Conference in Perth on Strategic Asset Management and what Critical thinking means in regards to Assets. Also that we should be more thinking and planning for our customers and their needs instead of using good old standard Infrastructure Asset thinking to manage them. It is more about what the Asset is for, Who it is for, When they need it, how much are they prepared to pay. in the case of roads it is more about Journey time reliability, resilience, robustness, smooth travel exposure than reseals based on age! etc. when you leave home in the morning to head to work you make several assumptions: 1. the time it will take, the route you can use, your coffee won't spill and historically as Engineers we have not really considered these "Customer Outcomes"

I have been accepted onto the REG group in New Zealand tasked with delivering the ONRC Strategy throughout Local Government in NZ. The Group is made of members from Metro, provincial, rural Councils, NZTA, Local Government NZ and other advisers. this is an amazing opportunity to add value to one of the biggest process changes in how the National Roading/transport network is managed in New Zealand with the outcomes being Value for Money and delivering the right asset at the right time to the right place at the best value.

Manage the development of Asset Management Plans for Road/bridges/parks/water supply/wastewater/stormwater. Development of Demand management Plans, Development of Catchment Management Plans, Development of 10yr renewals programs with high levels of critical assessments.

Managed all the daily Water and Waste Water operations, manage all staff, manage the Renewals program and CAPEX

Administer and manage a range of NDRRA Projects and other Council Projects including a $750K Flood early warning system for Toowoomba and Oakey by placement of sensors, radar systems within the catchments and connecting to computer modelling system, $25M Toowoomba Flood Mitigation project involving rebuilding urban streams, creating detention ponds to take peak of any storm, $16M gravel Road re-sheeting program, several new culverts and a bridge at around $1.1M each.

* Manage Roading, Drainage, Parks work teams * Develop Council Strategies for 10yr plan for all Assets * Manage all Funding applications * Manage Roading programmes * Develop Asset management Plans and Implement for all Council Asset Classes * Develop Asset database systems eg RAMM to extend to Open Spaces, Parks, Sports grounds, Buildings. * Be Councils Bushfire and Emergency Management Manager, Bush Fire Brigade Liaison, SES Liaison and link from local Agencies to DEFS (State Authority). * Manage Councils links with both State Government and federal Government. * Manage and develop Council Owned Airport. * Currently working on three State programs and assisting with regional dual purpose pathways & Trails. * Assisting in developing a standard Transport hierarchy LOS across the region

I have currently taken on the Role as Acting CEO as well as continuing as Infrastructure & Asset Manager. this is a new area for me and another whole level of Local Government to be understood.
