Gareth Coetzee
Deputy Consulting Director @ KBR, Inc.
About
As the Head of Downstream Middle East and Africa at KBR, I lead a team of talented engineers and consultants who provide solutions and services for the petrochemical, refinery, and gas processing industries. With over 25 years of experience in the process industry, I have a proven track record of delivering value-added projects, developing and commercializing cutting-edge technologies, and conducting strategic and economic assessments for various oil and gas assets and opportunities. My key areas of expertise include Gas to Liquids (GTL), upstream oil and gas asset evaluation and monetization, gas planning and utilization studies, and technology development and licensing. I have successfully managed and executed multiple GTL projects in South Africa and Qatar using licensed and internally developed and patented Low Temperature Fischer-Tropsch technology. I have also supported the upstream exploration and production division of PetroSA, providing commercial and economic modeling for various oil and gas development scenarios. My mission is to drive downstream excellence and innovation at KBR, leveraging my technical skills, industry knowledge, and leadership abilities.

Experience

GTL Evaluations Manager
Cape Town, South Africa
Identification and development of commercial GTL opportunities, using internally developed Low Temperature Fischer-Tropsch technology. Provide direction to technology licensor into technology development plans and GTL business plan. This technology was developed by a joint-venture company consisting of PetroSA, Lurgi and StatoilHydro. The JV designed and operated a 1000 barrels per day demonstration unit at PetroSA's Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) facility in Mosselbay, South Africa. Due to limited opportunities in the GTL commercialisation space and a change in company priorities, I also provide commercial and economic modelling support for the Upstream Exploration and Production division.

Production Manager
Mosselbay, South Africa
Production Manager for process plant consisting of steam-methane reformers, auto-thermal reformers, carbon dioxide removal unit and pressure swing adsorptions unit. Main responsibility was to produce quality products (synthesis gas, HP steam, hydrogen, CO2) as per schedule and specification, in the most cost effective way, with optimum plant and process reliability and with focus on the safety and competencies of employees. Also acted for 14 months as production manager for 1000 bpd Low-Temperature Fischer-Tropsch demonstration unit. This position ran co-currently with the above-mentioned position. Management of multi-disciplinary team, including training & development, budget, SHEQ, shutdown and maintenance planning.
