Gael McLaughlin

I have a wide range of skills across media formats, including film, TV and digital. I've recently been working freelance on a range of projects including developing, producing and winning commissions for adventure themed documentaries for brands, plus independently developing a range of TV and digital projects with various partners across documentary, drama, digital and animation.

Established in 2009, The Arctic Circle brings together international artists of all disciplines, scientists, architects, and educators who collectively explore the high-Arctic Svalbard Archipelago and Arctic Ocean aboard a specially outfitted Barquentine sailing vessel. I will be on board in 2023 with an ocean conservation focussed digital project.

All-women multi-nation multidisciplinary expedition snorkelling with orca and humpback during the winter herring run in the Arctic fjords near Tromso, Norway. Various scientific and creative projects will stem from the expedition, as well as citizen science engagement opportunities.

Developing a digital project with seed funding from StoryFutures

Nexus is an Oscar and Grammy award nominated production company studio based in London that produces work across animation, digital, interactive, VR, AR, TV and feature films. I worked on original content development across platforms including film, TV and digital, most recently on a pilot TV show for Amazon Studios. I also successfully raised prototype project funding via an Innovate UK competition focused on innovations in out-of-home advertising, in partnership with Ogilvy Labs and JCDeceaux. The solution Nexus Stage used projection mapping technologies to create a delightful and engaging user experience. Other digital projects included the successful development and release of an interactive storybook app that was Editor’s Pick and number one on the children’s book chart over several weeks. I also worked with Hertfordshire University on a collaboration to develop a new cross-platform production pipeline for games and animation, which included an application in partnership for KTN funding.

Bigger Pictures is owned and run by Darren Bender, previously a Commissioning Editor at Channel 4. I developed factual, documentary, drama and feature film proposals and raised £60k of feature development funding via MEDIA Desk.

I worked with the producers on all aspects of production of the Michael Caine thriller "Harry Brown", from assisting in closing the finance, cast contracts, to helping manage on-set issues to working closely with PR agency Freud Communications to ensure their work went smoothly on set.
