About
I am driven to push the boundaries of science to improve the lives of people with unmet medical needs, by building ambitious teams, helping others grow, and learning together. My early career focused on genome integrity and cell division, first in the UK (Newcastle and Manchester Universities) and later at Stanford University. While in the Bay Area, I helped at Merck Research Labs establish a new site and early discovery group, then joined then-startup CuraSen Therapeutics. There, I built and led preclinical infrastructure, recruited a fantastic team, and advanced small molecules for neurodegeneration into the clinic. Back in the UK, I joined Compass Pathways, leading preclinical programs through lead optimisation to clinical readiness. I broadened my expertise and team leadership across pharmacology, ADME, safety/tox, CMC, AI/ML, and IND-enabling strategy. As Chief Scientific Officer at Biomia, I focused on unlocking new treatments for CNS disorders, utilising a unique chemical space from the Biomia platform, and guided by validated, disease-specific pharmacology. Most recently, I am leading preclinical research at Brandaris Therapeutics and helping to coordinate clinical development of our lead asset. Finally, I am also active as an R&D consultant, working with a number of biotechs advancing their preclinical programs towards clinical entry. Drug discovery remains a human endeavour. My leadership style centres on trust, empowerment, and collaboration. I aim to give colleagues the space to find their voice, their working style, and their unique way of adding value. At Compass, I helped direct Compass R&D portfolio strategy, led the discovery pharmacology group and also drove preclinical discovery/development project teams, advancing assets to clinical readiness. Compass is a mental health care company dedicated to accelerating patient access to evidence-based innovation in mental health. The first clinical programme, in Phase 3 trials, is researching how COMP360, a proprietary form of psilocybin, could help people with treatment-resistant depression.

I built and led CuraSen's discovery lab, characterising novel small molecule activity in a panel of in vitro lead optimization assays, and helped build the preclinical data package that now gives CuraSen a number of clinical-stage assets in development.

Driver of multiple independent and collaborative projects, broadly aimed at understanding the mechanisms of chromosome segregation. Developed novel technologies that rebuild centromeric chromatin via protein purification, in vitro reconstitution and cell extracts to assay centromere function by numerous biochemical and microscopy techniques. Published 1 first author paper (another submitted), 1 project from an international collaboration, and 4 review articles (see publications). Directly mentored 6 rotation students and collaborated with multiple PhD candidates and fellow Postdocs across numerous projects, broadly investigating the role of chromatin in genome maintenance and development, using multiple technical approaches, including chromatography, microscopy, mass spectrometry and Next-generation sequencing.
