Shan Feng
Scientific Director @ Cymab
About
Scientific leader with 10+ years across immunology, translational biology, and preclinical development in biotech and academia, spanning discovery through nonclinical development of immuno-oncology therapies, including vaccines and multi-specific antibodies.I contribute to preclinical and translational strategy and combine rigorous in-vitro and in-vivo science with hands-on program leadership: study design and oversight, toxicology and GLP tox, CRO and vendor governance, IP and patent filing, and scientific communication that turns complex biology into decisions. My background bridges discovery science and operations. I have built immunoassay platforms, designed translational endpoints linking potency and biomarkers to in-vivo efficacy, steered tox studies toward CTA readiness, and managed external CROs and academic partners end-to-end. I work comfortably from the bench to the boardroom. Trained at the University of Copenhagen and Novo Nordisk, with research published in Gut, Journal of Hepatology, and Frontiers in Immunology.

Experience

Scientific Director
Copenhagen
- Shape preclinical and translational strategy and set research priorities across the pipeline; - Direct toxicology and GLP tox: study design, conduct oversight, protocol review, and report approval toward regulatory readiness: - Drive program-level project management — timelines, milestones, risk/issue tracking — with transparent reporting to leadership and the board; - Lead IP and patent filing and deliver decision-ready data packages supporting strategic decisions and fundraising.

Principal Scientist
Copenhagen
- Key driver of a multi-specific antibody program designed to convert immunologically cold tumors into immune-active lesions while keeping systemic exposure safe; - Led preclinical programs and study strategy across in-vitro assays and in-vivo models (syngeneic, humanized, xenograft); - Designed and interpreted cell-based functional assays: flow-based immune phenotyping, ELISA/binding, and mechanistic readouts; - Owned external CRO and academic collaborations as primary scientific and operational contact

Senior Scientist
Copenhagen
- Advanced a therapeutic breast cancer vaccine candidate from discovery toward Phase I, defining assay strategy and immunogenicity readouts; - Lead clinical bioanalysis support: protocol input, method development and validation, and sample analysis for samples derived from ongoing clinical studies; - Provide vendor oversight and data QC and integrate bioanalytical results into study reports and governance updates, bridging nonclinical and clinical data streams to inform translational interpretation. - Coordinated outsourced PoC and tox-enabling studies; oversaw DRF and GLP tox studies and reviewed/approved final reports for CTA readiness; - Worked with QA to ensure GxP-compliant study conduct; - Managed CRO and academic partner timelines, data integrity, and vendor performance, and delivered cross-functional data and risk/mitigation updates.

Postdoc Researcher
Copenhagen Area, Capital Region, Denmark
• Immunogenicity studies of immunized animals (mice and hamsters) with HCV variants or SARS-CoV-2 by evaluation of induction of neutralizing antibodies, cytokines and T cell responses, using technologies such as ELISA, MSD ELISA, ELISpot and intracellular flow cytometry. • Establishment of in-house immunoassays for HCV and SARS-CoV-2 studies to support several projects, including ELISA/Western blots for quantification of HCV envelope proteins, immunostaining of SARS-CoV-2 spike/nucleocapsid positive cells, ELISA detection of spike Ab, and quantification of spike protein in the bona fide and pseudo-typed SARS-CoV-2 virus. • mAbs discovery and production from immunized mice by hybridoma technology and identification of neutralizing Abs by ELISA and neutralization assays. • Characterization of virus-specific T cell responses in COVID-19 patients by using Dextramer technology and 10× chromium sequencing technologies in collaboration with IMMUDEX ApS, to assess their activation status and differentiate the various stages of memory phenotypes.

Academic Researcher

• Immune repertoires (B- and T- cell receptors) profiling by NGS of TCRs and BCRs for detection of clonal expansion and potential use in diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia • Full-length cDNA library construction (tagged with DNA-barcode) from small amount of samples for NGS • Analysis of immunoglobulin enrichment by qPCR and Xdrop™ technology in collaboration of Samplix ApS

PhD fellow

• Assessment of the immunoregulatory role of NK cells in the context of rheumatoid arthritis, one of the most investigated autoimmune disorders, including the cross talk between NK cells and mature osteoclasts and different subsets of CD4+ T cells in vitro using proliferation, apoptosis and cytotoxicity assays • Characterization of expanded polarized Th1, Th2, Th17 and Treg subsets from human PBMCs by phenotyping and cytokine detection using FACS, ELISA and cytometric bead array • Investigation of ligands and receptors involved in the killing of mature osteoclasts by activated NK cells in vitro • Assessment of the function of leading drug candidates in the mixed leukocytes reaction

Master Student
Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China
• Identified and characterized a novel transcription-associated zinc ribbon protein gene from silkworm, Bombyx mori, which is named BmZNRD1. • Generated and purified the polyclonal antibody from laboratory rabbit and compared the BmZNRD1 expression levels in different development stages of silkworm.
