A key role in the formation of the ENA in support of the UK Electricity Network companies. The ENA represents the interests of the Transmission System Operators and Distribution Network Operators with all of its stakeholders. As a director of the ENA my main responsibilities in the role of Director of Engineering included managing teams responsible for: the coordination, preparation and management of electricity industry standards; the management of coordinated programmes of activity in research and development, network operational issues, health and safety organisation, and transmission equipment certification; and representation of the utility companies technical interests with Ofgem, DTI, Government select committees and industry bodies such as Energywatch and the Major Energy Users Association. I sat on the board of the Joint Radio Company and the National Joint Utilities Group, representing the interests of the electricity utility companies. I was responsible for the incorporation of the Gas Transmission and Distribution Companies into the ENA.

Having played a key role in the development of BB Investments ongoing offshore transmission capability as a UK transmission licensee, I am now supporting the Group’s aims to develop investment opportunities in the field of electricity transmission and generation worldwide. This role involves the identification of relevant investment opportunities and their technical and commercial assessment. I continued to support the ongoing technical and operational aspects of the three offshore windfarm transmission assets for which Balfour Beatty holds the transmission licence.

I lead the technical and engineering support for Balfour Beatty's Ofto activities in the offshore market, where BB has successfully achieved preferred bidder status for Thanet and Greater Gabbard transmission assets.

I was appointed to develop the strategic direction of the company with a major focus on UK electricity utility networks. My key responsibilities included the preparation and submission of tenders for alliances with UK utilities. the development of the company strategy along with the management team to support a threefold increase in business volumes over the next three years. the identification and acquisition of target companies in support of the company strategy. the development and implementation of organisational change programmes in key support services involving safety and environment, supply chain management, marketing and business development.
