General counsel and corporate secretary at Scotiabank Peru In this position I am responsible for providing assistance and advice to the board of directors, the CEO and all areas of the bank and subsidiaries on all legal matters related to the development of their activities, including the management and the supervision of litigation aspects at the bank. Also member of the Board of some of the Scotia group companies in Perú and responsible for applying the best practices and standards of Scotiabank Corporate Governance in Peru. Also led the internal legal team in the process of the merger between Banco Wiese Sudameris and Banco Sudamericano -after their acquisition by the Scotiabank Group in March 2006-, as well as the internal legal teams in charge of the acquisition of former Banco del Trabajo (currently CrediScotia), Profuturo AFP, the retail portfolio from Citibank Peru, among other M&A transactions in Peru. I joined the bank in June 1995 at the investment banking division. For over six years, I was responsible for banking, corporate, and capital markets' advice, and focused my services largely on debt, equity, securitisations, structured offerings and M&A. I also participated in the corporate integration of Banco Wiese Ltdo and Banco de Lima Sudameris in 1999. I was also manager of the trust department before I was appointed secretary of the bank in 2002, and later on general counsel in 2003. Before joining the bank, I was counsellor for the Private Investment Promotion Commission (COPRI), a government agency responsible for the privatisation process carried out during the 90s in Peru. There, I focused on the privatisation of fishing companies and among my responsibilities were the structuring of the privatisation programs to be implemented in companies and the designing of auctions and public offerings related to the transfer of companies or production units to private investors.
