Frances Southwick

I am an osteopathic family physician and literary nonfiction writer practicing at a federally qualified health center in California's central valley. My education includes a BA in philosophy from Colorado State University, a DO from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and completion of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program. I served as Yolo County's California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) Expert Facilitator for Medications for Addiction Treatment, a Balint facilitator, and a front-lines innovator for clinical tools such as the Self Interview, a strengths-based waiting room form with roots in motivational interviewing and healing-oriented, trauma-informed practices. My clinical lenses: Patient-centered care, Social equity, Humanistic care, Osteopathy, and Community building. My clinical interests: OMT (osteopathic manipulative treatment), MAT (medications for addiction treatment), trauma-informed care, and care for the queer community.
