I developed and maintained distributed media analysis services, maintained the open source software Photon, and contributed to various IMF standards efforts as document editor and project chair.

I managed standards engagements related to post production / studio delivery and facilitated the rollout of new features and integrations with external technology manufacturers. For example, I saw the standardization of IAB support in IMF to completion as SMPTE TC 35PM co-chair, collaborated with technology manufacturers to get support into the de facto standard IMF mastering tools and aligned with Netflix product teams to roll out IAB ingest support and an updated delivery specification. I served as editor of the ASC Media Hash list specification and contributed to ACES working groups, particularly supporting the rollout of ACES Metadata File in 3rd party applications. I negotiated agreements with technology manufacturers to license SDKs for integration into the Netflix encoding pipeline. I presented at roadmap briefings for technology manufacturers under the umbrella of the Netflix Post Technology Alliance.

I led IMF standardization as co-chair of SMPTE TC 35PM and worked with technology manufacturers to implement Netflix's delivery requirements, e.g. support for Dolby Vision and supplemental IMF packaging.

I was responsible for the coordination and supervision of engineering activities within the SMPTE Standards Community. My top priority was to make SMPTE engineering documents more accessible, so that implementers and adopters can discover and access them with as little friction as possible. Under my leadership, the society created a first set of landing pages for popular standards suites (ST 2067 & ST 2110), which can be easily discovered through web search. Additionally, SMPTE removed the paywall for the entire IMF standards suite to understand how it impacts document consumption. During my tenure, SMPTE members developed an Open Source HTML-based document development and publication workflow. We successfully tested it by converting several administrative documents into the new format throughout the year, and the system will enable significant workflow optimizations going forward. Delays introduced by the many manual steps in the current process will soon be a relict of the past.

I represented Fraunhofer in SMPTE working groups and industry forums like ISDCF and IMF User Group, while still contributing to the development of Fraunhofer's easyDCP software. I supported customers in the LA area and collected feedback/requirements to inform roadmaps for Fraunhofer's IMF/DCP packaging products and Light-field imaging solution.

Working in the field of Digital Cinema and Digital Film Archives, I was involved in projects like EDCINE & EFG1914 and have been a member of the easyDCP software team from the very beginning. I presented at preservation and film digitization workshops in Italy, England, Denmark, Spain and Germany to train film archivists in digital imaging and compression fundamentals. I designed and implemented the DCP packaging software library that provided the base for easyDCP Creator and contributed to the further development of the easyDCP product line.

I implemented software tools for MXF processing, DCP creation and DCI compliance tests. I finished my studies with a thesis on JPEG 2000 transcoding for RTP streaming, which was accompanied by a prototype implementation of the workflow based on VideoLAN Client (VLC).
