Selective Master program that focuses on the relation between theory and empirical evidence. Therefore the first half of the year is dedicated towards understanding how different theories can be grouped together and perceive conflicts. As a result the student is able to switch lenses, which enables them think abstractly about conflicts. During the second half I decided to go to Jamaica to perform research about how the extraction of taxes affects the legitimacy of dons (area-leaders). This in order to acquire a better understanding of hybrid states, state-effect and legitimacy. The chosen methodology was ethnographic, qualitative research combined with grounded theory.
