Leading on development of better Costing in NHS MH and Community organisations as part of the Costing Transformation Programme

* July 2001 * December 2002, various placements in Finance including Management Accounts and budget setting. Jan 2003 to Jan 2006 * Leading a team preparing Reference Costs and other Costing duties * PbR Lead * Income Management for Non Contract Activities and Private Patients, Workforce Developement Confederation Liaison * and Finance Training for Non-Finance Managers.

NHS costing lead, with specialist knowledge of implementing and running a Patient Level Information and Costing System, and developing Service Line Reporting protocols and engagement. Presented and ran workshops at the HfMA and NHS Confederation conferences on PLICS. Maintained position as lead role for Reference Costs, Local Pricing, and Income billing. Represented my organisation as part of the HfMA Costing Special Interest Group; where I coordinated the refresh of the Acute Clinical Costing Standards. Also worked as part of the national programme for developing Palliative Care currencies in the Palliative Care Funding Review (DOH led).

Believing firmly that the main thing holding back PLICS development and restricting the journey to a better national tariff is the quality of data, I have been internally seconded to lead project work on improving the electronic patient record data entry. This has involved work with clinicians at many levels to involve and support them to understand the information available and improve their awareness of resource use and business issues. I also work with Admin staff to improve their engagement, support them with better training, and am writing an Admin Staff Competency Framework. I work closely with the Cost Improvement Programmes and Service Improvements Team to facilitate innovation and operational efficiency within contractual rules; supporting business cases and finances for service change.

To develop my general management skills and understand more completely the issues of management colleagues. The course was part time whilst working full time.
