While the Heart Foundation's work over the past five decades has helped reduce the number of deaths, cardiovascular disease (heart, stroke and blood vessel disease) remains one of Australia’s most devastating health problems. Fergus is was the Chair of the Tasmanian Finance, Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee until May 2018. The Heart Foundation restructured State and Territory boards to become a unified legal entity, with all Tasmanian directors concluding their term in May 2018. The Hobart office remains, with the Tasmanian CEO and Staff continuing to have a strong local presence.
