Farzad Saghafi

I am a results-driven Clinical Engineering leader with a deep passion for building high-performing teams and delivering excellence in medical equipment management. My career has progressed through some of London’s most renowned NHS Trusts, where I have consistently combined technical expertise with strategic leadership. I began my journey as a Medical Equipment Technician at Barts and The Royal London Hospital, before moving to King's College Hospital as a Senior Medical Equipment Technician following the completion of my Postgraduate Diploma. I then took on the role of Medical Engineering Manager at Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust, where I led the department and drove significant improvements. Throughout my career, I have successfully managed all aspects of clinical engineering, from procurement and contract management to compliance, maintenance, and capital equipment purchasing. I have led projects exceeding £100 million in capital investments over the past decade, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and leading negotiations with multinational suppliers. I particularly enjoy the challenge of complex, high-value negotiations, always aiming to achieve the best outcomes for patients and the organisation. A key achievement I am especially proud of is drafting and implementing a bespoke ISO 9001 Quality Management System, fully tailored to the needs of my department. I am also known for producing visually engaging and insightful reports for various senior committees, consistently praised for their clarity and effectiveness. What drives me most is the opportunity to lead, inspire, and empower teams to maximise the impact of available resources. I believe that strong leadership is the foundation for solving complex problems and achieving sustainable success in healthcare.
