Pepary Investments is an agri-business based in Harare, leasing three farms that are in Shamva, Mhangura and Raffingora. It also has outgrowers who are contracted to enable Pepary to meet both local and regional demand for potatoes. Pepary’s main product is the potato (both commercial potato and seed potato) which is an all year crop which is supplied to local retailers, fast food retailers as well as the informal market. Other seasonal products include maize, soya beans, popcorn, wheat, chillies, cherry peppers and granadillas. Pepary is part of the Innscor group as its major shareholder Paperhole Investments, is a subsidiary of Innscor Africa. My roles and responsibilities at Pepary include: • Preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements, with supporting schedules for the review by the Group Finance Director • Preparation of annual budgets • Cashflow management • Supervision of the finance department • Monitoring, review and report on financial activities to the board of directors • Preparation and submission of company tax and statutory returns • Continuos improvement of internal controls • Preparation and coordination of year end audit

The roles and responsibilities at Pepary include: • Supervision of farm clerks to ensure accurate recording of daily inventory movement data • Checking the accuracy of biological asset costs by product type by comparing crop costing schedules to SAP warehouse balances to budgets • Reconciliation of inventory. • Ensuring continuous improvement of internal controls in inventory • Preparation of company tax and statutory returns • Supervision of accounting staff to ensure timely preparation of: i) Fixed Asset schedule that ties to the ledger ii) Debtor and creditor schedules that ties to the ledger iii) Intercompany reconciliations which tie to the ledger and signed off by related parties iv) Inventory valuation report for both farms – tying to the ledger v) Reviewing bank and cash reconciliations

• Works as an audit assistant within audit teams • Works under guidance and instruction of an audit senior • Works includes audit testing using Deloitte´s methodology • Develops an understanding of the audit client`s business • Processing information and making relevant conclusions during the audit

• Preparing daily deposits and bank transfers • Receipting debtors cheques and cash • Handling Petty Cash • Journal Entries and Bank queries • Posting of Bank entries and Bank reconciliations • Posting of debtor receipts • Preparing Ledger Accounts Reconciliations • Creditor Reconciliations • Handling Petty cash claims and cash disbursements • Stationery stock take and handling of stationery issues and receipts • Administrative Duties • Any other duties assigned by Financial Controller

This degree is mainly, but not exclusively, for persons who wish to become Chartered Accountants (SA)/Registered Accountants and Auditors or Associated General Accountants. In order to become an Associated General Accountant a person must complete the BCompt offered by the Department of Auditing and the Department of Accounting. In order to become a Chartered Accountant (SA)/Registered Accountant and Auditor a person must first complete the BCompt offered by the Department of Auditing and the Department of Accounting, followed by the Honours BCompt and additional certificates or diplomas offered by the Department of Applied Accountancy.
