Evelyn Chen S J

Evelyn has been tracking the food and beverage scene in Singapore (and rest of Asia) for two decades. In this period, she has served as a food critic for Time Out Singapore and an editor for Zagat Singapore. In between assignments, she consults on F&B events for luxury hospitality brands. Since early 2024, she’s also started a dinner series branded Bibik’s Supper Club, where she tells stories through specially curated dinners headlined by award-winning chefs. Her food and travel beats have been published in New York Times, Telegraph Travel, Time, Destin Asian, CNN Travel, Zagat, Eater.com, CNBC and the South China Morning Post. Evelyn serves as Telegraph Travel’s Singapore Destination Expert where she annually updates the Singapore City Break Guide. She is also a Contributing Editor for White Guide's 12forward Singapore's inaugural edition where she reviews the city's most "food forward" restaurants. For the 2018th edition of "Where Chefs Eats", Evelyn was tasked as a Contributing Editor, where she curates the Asian chefs selection and co-writes a portion of the book. She had also served as the Regional Academy Chair for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Asia's 50 Best Restaurants for nine years since 2014. Evelyn has made several food-related guest TV appearances. In 2014, she was invited to Tokyo as a judge for Asian Ace, a reality cooking competition produced by the Tokyo Broadcasting Station. She has also been interviewed as a Dining Specialist, where she shared her insights on Singapore’s dining scene, in TV programmes like The Toque 12 and 3 Chefs 1 City. Additionally, she was a Research Consultant for Food Heroes, a 12-episode documentary profile series for Channel NewsAsia that put the spotlight on Singapore's most prolific chefs. In 2015, Evelyn was invited to participate in a panel discussion at Hyatt’s Asia Pacific Regional Food Leadership Conference in Shanghai, an event attended by more than a hundred Hyatt senior executives and chefs in the Asia Pacific region, where she shared her perspectives on consumer dining trends. In 2016, she was retained as a Consultant by an F&B group to organize a two-day ticketed masterclass event that involved 20 of Singapore's top-tier chefs.
