I joined as PA to the HR Director and worked for him until March 1986 when I was promoted to Personnel Officer. My duties as PA were shorthand, confidential typing, composing own letters, salary administration, organising of all temporary staff (approximately 40 temps a month), arranging interviews for senior level recruitment and overseas travel arrangements. As Personnel Officer I reported to the HR Director and was responsible for all departmental administration (including all salary admin, salary reviews, promotions, new starters, leavers), departmental expenses, budgets and monthly management reports, recruitment of temporary staff, private medical scheme, all pension related admin, staff loans and mortgage approval and admin, ad-hoc reports, control of the Personnel Computer system (Data General) and responsible for the payroll function for approximately 400 staff. I had three people reporting to me (the Payroll Clerk and two Admin Clerks).

Started volunteering at the Hospice in 2013 as a Ward Clerk then moved into the role of Co-ordinator for Share n Care, a support group for carers who are looking after loved ones with life limiting illness.

The company is a specialist Rhododendron grower and I carried out all the tasks necessary to run a small business. This included stock control, website, customer liaison, marketing, accounts and payroll. Turnover was £210,000 per annum. The new website that I developed increased web sales by 130% in the first year. In 2009 we were awarded a Gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Since we were only a team of three, this was an amazing achievement that involved hard work, lots of late nights and many hours chatting/selling to customers at the Show itself. I wrote all the pre-show marketing, Press Releases and leaflets and helped with the design of our exhibit and all the logistics.
