Erin Vecchio
Senior Data Scientist @ Chubb
About
My name is Erin Vecchio and I am a recent engineering graduate of Cornell University (BS'19 and MEng'20). During my undergrad, I obtained a wealth of knowledge in supply chain analytics, operations management, and data science. To compliment my Operations Research and Information Engineering degree, I also obtained a business minor from Cornell's Dyson School of Business. During my fifth year at Cornell, I obtained a Master's Degree in Engineering Management and was accepted into Cornell's Johnson School of Management. The strategic systems and operations immersion program provided me the opportunity to apply my operations logistics skills in a capstone project. With the completion of my degree, I plan on pursuing a career in supply chain and data science. Throughout my life, my experiences and activities have provided me with a number of skills: As a graduate researcher, I developed my time management and communication skills. In the fall semester, I aided our Men's Basketball team by creating their data analytics program. I was able to reinvent how they evaluate high school talent and redefine the importance of recruitment KPIs by developing a Pareto Front analysis. For the spring semester, I analyzed the impact of the Astros cheating scandal on both a team and player basis. I presented my findings to a team executive in which he agreed with my findings that relaying signals did not have a positive or negative impact on the Astros' ability to win during the regular season. In addition to research experience, I have gained valuable data analytics and problem-solving experience through my three summer internships with Chubb Insurance. Over these summers, I had the opportunity to learn from experts in the data science field. From this, I learned the preparation needed to communicate strategic action plans to business partners with varying levels of data science knowledge. The ability to effectively communicate my results and solutions allowed me to gain key professional experience. To complement my academics, holding positions with Pi Beta Phi fraternity provided me leadership mentorship lessons from upper-classmen. With the presidential role with Cornell Club Field Hockey, I had the opportunity to mentor younger members and interact with the governing club board of New York State. I am passionate about the intersection of operations, supply chain and data science, and the hustle of facilitating and creating their solutions. I can be contacted via email at efv9@cornell.edu. I hope to have a chance to show you how I can impact your organization.
