erik castro

Originally from Los Angeles, Erik Castro began his career as a photographer in Seattle, Washington after returning from an inspiring trip through Russia and Eastern Europe in the late 1990s. He dedicated the first few years of his career photographing issues concerning low-income residents and those struggling with drug and alcohol addictions. Castro interned at both the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and the Orlando Sentinel and has a bachelor’s degree in journalism with high honors from The University of Texas at Austin. In 2005, Castro received a Hearst Award for his photo essay on a prison rehabilitation program and he is a two-time winner of the National Press Photographers Association Award for his multimedia work. His images have been exhibited in Los Angeles, Seattle and Sonoma, California and he is the sole photographer for a book about a new generation of winemakers titled, "The New California Wine" published by Ten Speed Press, 2013. Erik Castro is based in Santa Rosa, California.
