Erich Schultz

I am a graduate Mechanical Engineer with a strong interest in control systems, mechatronics, and practical problem-solving, driven by a desire to design systems that are both technically robust and environmentally responsible. For my final-year project, I designed and built a ball balancing platform, taking the system from first principles through modelling, control design, implementation, and experimental validation. The project pushed me beyond textbook PID control and into deeper control theory, system dynamics, and real-world constraints such as sensor noise, actuator limits, and embedded implementation. Seeing the platform actively reject disturbances and stabilise the ball was a defining moment in my engineering journey. I have hands-on experience working with ESP32 microcontrollers, Simulink, servo control, analog sensing, and calibration, and I enjoy bridging the gap between theory and hardware. I’m particularly interested in dynamic systems, feedback control, and embedded mechatronic design, and I value thorough research and a solid theoretical foundation when tackling engineering problems. Beyond engineering, I have a deep appreciation for nature and sustainability. I’m motivated by the idea that good engineering should work with the environment rather than against it, and I’m eager to contribute to projects that improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support a more sustainable future. I’m always keen to learn, build, test, and iterate — and I’m excited to grow as an engineer by working on meaningful, real-world challenges. Let's connect and grow.
