Emmanuel Tuombe, P.E.
Chief Executive Officer @ ABES Engineering & ABES Contracting
About
I’m an entrepreneur seeking partnerships with other like-minded entrepreneurs - partnerships that will take our businesses to the next level and positively impact communities. I am founder/CEO of ABES Engineering and founder/President of ABES Contracting, both headquartered in Memphis, TN. I launched ABES Engineering in 2015 and ABES Contracting in 2021. Today, ABES Engineering and ABES Contracting have a combined 23 employees, including eight professional engineers with more than 100 years of engineering experience. ABES Engineering opened a second office in Nashville in 2022. I believe businesses like ABES Engineering and ABES Contracting have the power to change communities for the better. I have seen it firsthand. I grew up in Rwanda, Africa, after the 1994 genocide. I saw firsthand the crumbling infrastructure of my country. I understood that without infrastructure, a country can’t thrive. I resolved to make a difference in the world. I earned an engineering degree and founded Engineers Without Borders Rwanda, implementing infrastructure projects to improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities. I came to the U.S. in 2006, and earned a master’s degree in civil engineering. I faced challenges coming to a country where I knew no one. But I persevered and stayed focus on my goals. Today, I’m a professional engineer licensed in 10 states. In 2020, I was honored at the White House in Washington, D.C. as a Game Changer in the Entrepreneur Field as part of the Entrepreneurs and Innovators Summit. In 2022, I was recognized with a Leaders and Legends Award from the City of Memphis. ABES Engineering was awarded an Engineering Excellence Award from ACEC Tennessee in 2024 and was honored in 2023 with a Flame Award from Memphis Light, Gas and Water. We are honored by these recognitions, but it’s our work in our communities that truly defines ABES. We are grateful to have worked on important projects that strengthen our communities, including the Gaisman Community Center in Memphis. ABES designed the 22,000-square-foot center, helping to create a modern and safe neighborhood gathering space. ABES is also a part of the $10 million Accelerate Memphis Orange Mound project. The Orange Mound neighborhood, begun in 1889, is the first community in the country built solely by and for African Americans. The Accelerate Memphis project is revitalizing this historic neighborhood. I am committed to growing my companies and continuing our work strengthening communities. Let's do business together!
