About
Emmanuel Remi Aiyede is Professor of Political Institutions, Governance and Public Policy in the Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan. He is also Extraordinary Professor at the School of Public Management and Administration, Faculty Economics and Management Sciences, University of Pretoria from 01 August 2024 to July 2027. He is a Fellow of the Pan-African Scientific Research Council (PASRC. He was the Research and Policy Uptake Lead of the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR), Nairobi (July - Dec. 2023); and the Head of the Department of Political Science (2020-2022). Professor Aiyede is a former Sub-Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences (2012-2014) and former Coordinator of the Leadership and Governance Programme (2010- 2014), at the Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan. He was also a Visiting Scholar, at the Electoral Institute, Abuja (2016-2017), and a Visiting Fellow, at Transregional Centre for Democratic Studies (TCDS) New School University, New York, 2000. He has been involved with the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) in promoting innovative pedagogy in Africa, developing of the curriculum for the Master of Research and Public Policy programme and the PhD programme in Public Policy at universities across Africa in 2020. He is an alumnus of the Fulbright Study of the US Institute of National Security Policy after 9/11, University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware USA, in 2009. He is also a beneficiary of the Executive Education programme funded by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, on ‘Capacity Building for Governance: Index of African Governance Workshop’ at the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), 2008. He has had visiting lectureship experience in several universities within and outside Africa. He has been on the Editorial Board of Nigeria’s oldest surviving newspaper, the Nigerian Tribune, since 2008. He contributes to public discourse in the Nigerian news media. He taught at the University of Lagos, before joining the University of Ibadan in 2005. He won a 2003 medal for Outstanding Research in Development of the Global Development Network (GDN), a prize sponsored by the World Bank. His article on Fiscal Federalism and the Dilemma of Constructing a Developmental State in Nigeria in the International Political Science Review (2009) is one of the 50 most cited articles in the Sage and the Journal website for several years. His recent publication is Research and Public Policy in Africa (2023), Palgrave Macmillan).

I provided professional and technical guidance for PASGR’S multi-faceted Research Programme Projects; oversaw the implementation of the portfolio of the Research Programme projects, co-ordinate and monitor the Research Programme activities throughout the various research cycles as well as lead the planning and design of new research initiatives; lead outreach and consultation activities linked to research; and be the main point of contact with the programme’s strategic partners including funders in line with PASGR’s mission and vision.
