Eyad Elyan

Dr. Elyan is a Reader at the School of Computing Science and Digital Media (RGU). His research in the area of machine learning and machine vision is primarily focused on creating novel methods to represent and extract knowledge from unstructured and structured data and applying it to solve industrial problems. Eyad is leading the machine vision research group at the School and has attracted funds to support his research from different public funding bodies including Innovate UK, the Data Lab Innovation Centre and Oil and Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC), Historic Environment Scotland and Others.

Senior Lecturer in Computer Science. Duties include: MSc Data Science Course Leader, teaching undergraduates and postgraduates levels, supervising MSc and PhD students. Active researcher in Machine Learning, Machine Vision and Data Analytics and leading several collaborative projects between the University and industrial partners across disciplinary boundaries.

Lecturer at the School of Computing and active researcher with the Institute for Innovation, Design & Sustainability Research (IDEAS).

Research assistant and a PhD candidate at the school of informatics. Duties include: Design and implement a software solution using C++ for constructing 3D surfaces using 4th order Partial Differential Equations (PDE Method). The software has been developed as a set of fully encapsulated classes that models the numeric and functionalities of the corresponding mathematical concepts. Develop a 3D platform using C++, MFC and OpenGl for Visualizing, processing and comparing 3D images of human faces. Develop “Magic Curves 3D - Maya Plugin” a plug-in for MAYA –Autodesk- using C++ and MEL script for constructing geometric shapes using the PDE method. Collaborate with the school of Life Science/ Division of Optometry by developing a software tool for constructing 3D objects with various volumes in order to explore how humans perceive graphic objects.

Web application developer. Duties include: Carry out requirements analysis and design relational database models as a backend for the portal. Developing and updating data models, and implementing it using oracle pl/sql. Developing several client and server side web components using different web technologies (javascript, html, tcl/tk and JSP), and testing, debugging, and troubleshooting several web-based applications used within the PDG portal.

Database and software developer. Duties include: Design, implement and test databases using MS Access and Oracle DBMS, mostly for the accounting department for auditing purposes. Access the central Oracle database to generate regular and irregular reports using Sql statements and pl/sql procedures.
