Being a conversation partner for the Intensive English Program at the University of Mississippi was one of the most rewarding parts of my college experience. As a non-native English speaker, I understood the challenges of learning a new language and wanted to help international students build confidence and feel welcomed. What started as Zoom conversations during my freshman year turned into an in-person opportunity after I took the initiative to bring conversation partners into the classroom. This helped bridge the gap between international and American students, creating a space where everyone could connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. Not only did students improve their English skills, but they also experienced meaningful cultural exchange—meeting people from all walks of life and broadening their global perspective

I work with mainly Spanish and Mandarin-speaking students. Through different learning methods like drawing, games, and language exchange, I help elementary students learn common English phrases and English vocabulary. These phrases and vocabulary are useful for their daily lives and better communication in an English-speaking environment. In my time working with them, they have developed confidence in themselves, and I am happy to see them using new phrases learned during our tutoring time.

As an intern in the Department of International Affairs, I supported the office by translating official documents from Chinese to Spanish and English, contributing to the party’s international outreach and communication efforts. I also assisted with administrative and office tasks as needed, gaining insight into Taiwan’s political landscape and international engagement.
